A Cambuslang-based firm has stepped in to make sure Scotland’s national amputees football team can host their first international friendly.

The Scottish side is set to take on their counterparts from the Netherlands on October 28.

It will be the first time the newly formed team have hosted a match, and bosses at Deans Civil Engineering were only too happy to fund the occasion.

Deans will cover the cost of venue hire, player accommodation and officials’ fees as well as travel costs and catering.

Amputee Football Association Scotland was set up in November 2016 to develop the sport in Scotland.

It started as a pilot project in partnership with Partick Thistle Community Trust in Glasgow.

The team travelled to Holland for a match in June, suffering a narrow defeat, and they hope to taste victory in the return leg which will be played at the National Sports Training Centre at Largs.

Deans Civil Engineering limited is a civil engineering and groundworks company carrying out works for clients in a variety of sectors including social housing, healthcare, education, commercial and private development.

Owner Steven Deans said:“On hearing about the growth of amputee football in this country I was both intrigued and excited about how we could assist in further developing the sport.

“With the passion and enthusiasm shown by all involved, we had no hesitation about stepping in to make sure this event could go ahead.

“Now that it is a reality, we are all very much looking forward to the outcome

“We hope that by supporting this event, we can demonstrate the goodwill that exists within the Scottish business community.”
