News in brief from around the local churches
The popular Messy Church event at Rutherglen Baptist Community Church is held on the third Saturday of each month (excluding July and August).
The next Messy Church is on Saturday, October 21, in the lower hall at the church in Greenhill Road, Rutherglen, from 4pm until 6pm.
The aim is to have fun exploring a bible theme through creativity, games and stories, and to enjoy building relationships by sharing a meal together. Fernhill and Cathkin Church is continuing to create new organisations for the congregation, including the knitting and nattering club, the fortnightly crafts and coffee club led by Archie Paterson.
Numbers attending on a Sunday continue to grow although there is still room for further progress.
They are building new bridges all the time in efforts to improve congregation. The annual Christian Aid coffee fayre will be held this Saturday, October 21, from 10am until noon.
This will take place in West and Wardlawhill hall in Hamilton Road.
It is a £2.50 entry and this includes a cuppa, cakes and a chance to catch up with friends.
Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon. Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday from noon until 2pm for Thoughtful Thursdays, which provides quiet time away from the hustle and bustle.
Tea and biscuits are available for £1. Flemington Hallside Church hosts a community cafe each Thursday from noon until 2pm.
The women’s guild meet on Wednesdays at 7pm and friendly hour for the elderly takes place on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. Cambuslang Parish Church’s cafe is open every Wednesday from 10am through until noon. Rutherglen United Reformed Church’s Go Ahead Club has started up again.
The non-denominational seniors club get together for tea and coffee every Wednesday at 2pm. Rutherglen’s Salvation Army has a host of events going on, including toddler groups, the Jam Club and singing groups.

They will also be holding an October fun day today, Wednesday, October 18.
It will run from 1pm to 4pm at their building on King Street, Fernhill and Cathkin Church has started a knit and nattering class that will be held every Thursday from 10am until noon.
The tea room is open each week from 9.30-11.30am.
The Fitness Follies keep fit class meet every Wednesday at 10.30am. Stonelaw Church’s Cafe@The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 2.30pm.
The church holds 30-minute services in the meeting place on the first Wednesday of every month at 2pm. On Thursday, October 26, the award-winning Renfrew Burgh Band will hold a concert in Toryglen Parish Church at 7.30pm in aid of church funds.
Tickets will be available at the door.
A bus has been organised to allow those in the Toryglen and Rutherglen area to attend the Reformation 500 service in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrew’s, on Tuesday, October 31.

It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Entry is £1.50. Castlemilk Parish Church holds community meals on the first and third Fridays of the month. Soup, pizza and pavlova are available from 6-8pm along with live music.
The church also has various other activities ongoing.

It has a number of activities from a hand massage to playing pool, as well as spiritual guidance. Rutherglen and Cambuslang Men’s Shed meet in Rutherglen Baptist Community Church every Tuesday and Thursday between 10am and 3pm.
