Young Glens keep perfect record

-

Glencairn under 21s kept up their 100 per cent record this season with a 6-0 home win over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy under 21s at Glasgow Green Football Centre.

The score could have been more were it not for the heroics of Rob Roy‘keeper Aidan Houston who made a series of stunning saves to keep the scoreline blank at half-time.

But the match changed in the 50th minute when Fraser was hauled down by Houston in the box. Not only did the referee award a penalty, but the hard-worked Rob Roy goalie was sent off after picking up his second booking of the match.

Defender Grant Wood took over in goals but he was unable to save Ryan Clark’s penalty.

Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Marcus Fraser once again pounced on a defensive slip, and he confidently fired past Wood into the far corner of the net.

The mid point of the second half saw the lead increased to 3-0. Wood could only flap a cross into the path of Jordan Davidson, who made no mistake to convert from 10 yards.

A quick break from a rare Rob Roy corner brought the fourth goal. Wood came to clear a hooked clearance but succeeded only in kicking the ball against Brian Ashe, who then won the race for the loose ball to roll it into the empty net.

Glens made it 5-0 in the 84th minute as Alan Dunsmore drilled the ball low past Wood into the far corner and it was six with two minutes left when Caughey glanced home with his head.

The young Glens will be hoping to keep their perfect record intact next week as they travel for a top-of-the-table clash away to league leaders Harmony Row.
