Gaffer slams rough play on striker

Clyde gaffer Jim Chapman reckons striker David Goodwillie receives unfair treatment from opposition players.

The controversial former Scotland star found himself in the thick of the action again on Saturday as the Bully Wee cruised to a 3-0 Scottish Cup victory at Keith.

Keith defender Michael Ralton appeared to stamp on Goodwillie after 70 minutes and was shown his marching orders.

The incident sparked a furious response from the Clyde players and Chapman reckons that shows the togetherness in the squad.

He said:“I have said it for weeks now, he (Goodwillie) gets unfair treatment week in, week out.

“I was pleased with how my players reacted. We are a real good, tight bunch and we stood up for each other there.”

Clyde failed to break down their Highland opponents in the first half, although Darren Ramsay did force David Dey in the Keith goal into a fine save.

The opener arrived just two minutes into the second half. Keith failed to deal with a long punt from Currie and Max Wright capitalised to set up Smart Osadolor who produced a neat back heel to score.

Keith’s hopes of salvaging a replay went up the tunnel with Ralton on 70 minutes and just two minutes Clyde doubled their lead.

Wright met Ramsay’s free kick to plant a firm header into the bottom corner.

The third arrived in the 79th minute. Goodwillie lifted a ball to the back post and Ramsay nodded home from close range.

Chapman was pleased to get the win:“In the cup you are sometimes on a hiding to nothing.

“We dominated lot of games and just don’t kill teams off and you always have that worry, so I was pleased we managed to defend a lot better and we had a bit better structure about us.

“It could have been more comfortable but I’m really pleased with a clean sheet and most importantly we are in the next round.”

The reward for Clyde is a home tie against League One side East Fife in the third round. The tie will take place the weekend of November 18.
