Sizing up new role in big panto

Teen Melissa plays ‘Prof’

- Jonathan Geddes

A Croftfoot teenager is sizing up her first theatre role after earning a part in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Melissa Hemmingsley, a King’s Park secondary pupil, has won the part of Prof in the show by the Eros Musical Society, which will be at East Kilbride Village Theatre, from November 21 to November 25.

The 15-year-old started acting through her school three years ago, and this is the first theatre group she has been involved with.

She said: “I’m definitely excited as this is my first part like this.

“I’d been looking for a company to join and Eros was the first one that I went for.

“Prof is the same sort of character as Doc in the Disney film, the one that’s the head dwarf and in charge of the others.

“All the cast are amazing. I was quite nervous going in because I didn’t know anyone, but there were a group of girls my age there and we all got on straight away.”

Melissa believes her school experiences have helped her too.

She said: “I started acting about three years ago when the school took it up. “

“It’s given me a lot of confidence to go and do something like this.

President of the society, Mr Ian McAulay added: “The show is going to be fantastic. The script is written by Eric Potts, who has been responsible for most of the pantomimes shown in the King’s Theatre over the last several years, and it promises lots of fun, laughter, great costumes, and of course, singalong tunes perfect for a pantomime.

“We are delighted to be in East Kilbride Village Theatre this year. It’s in a great location, where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to go and make a real night out of it before and after the panto.”

Tickets for the show, starting at £10, are available through http:// www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk or by calling 01355 232 241.
