Rutherglen Reformer

His organ recital at museum

- Jonathan Geddes

A talented young organist at St Bride’s Church in Cambuslang recently had the honour of performing at a prestigious Glasgow location.

Aaron Hawthrone, who has been at St Bride’s since April 2016, was selected to play the daily organ recital at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

The performance is always a popular draw at the Glasgow museum, and Aaron, a third year student at the University of Glasgow, was delighted to be given the opportunity.

He said:“Over the past few years I’m just been trying to build a name for myself and I was invited to play at Kelvingrove.

“Last week was my first recital, and I’ll hopefully be back in November.

“There’s hundreds of people who visit the museum every day, so at 1pm (when Aaron’s recital was) the place was filled.

“It was quite an honour. I was encouraged to play repertoire from my cinema organ playing, so there was some Elvis, a little bit of classical and some show tunes.

“I opened with That’s Entertainment, which is the piece that I had won the Young Theatre Organist of the Year 2017 with.”

Aaron also praised St Bride’s for the support the church had given him over the year.

He added:“It’s a wonderful parish and the community there have been really encouraging.”
