House price increase
Boost for market
Rutherglen and Cambuslang’s property market has been given a boost as it was revealed the average house price rose by four per cent in the last year.
The latest available figures, for August 2017, show the value of the average house in South Lanarkshire has gone up from £119,781 to £124,824 compared with August 2016.
That is a rise of 4.2 per cent in the government statistics released by Registers of Scotland as part of their involvement in the new UK House Price Index, which is published every month.
Across Scotland as a whole, the average property was worth £146,354 – up 3.9 per cent from last year’s figure of £140,885.
The latest monthly report shows there were 674 sales in South Lanarkshire, up 18.7 per cent from 568 in the same month last year.
Across Scotland only Glasgow, Edinburgh and Fife recorded more sales than South Lanarkshire.
Charles Keegan, Registers of Scotland registration and transformation director, said: “Average prices in Scotland continued their upward trend in August with an increase of 3.9 per cent when compared to August 2016.
“Average prices have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016, when compared with the same month of the previous year.”
