Rutherglen Reformer

We will all miss Neil

- Dorothy Connor Rutherglen

The committee of Cambuslang Summerfest would like to add our sentiments to the articles about the Rev Neil Glover (Reformer, 18/10/2017).

Neil was an ardent supporter of Summerfest and we will miss him very much.

Neil worked hard within his community to further the chances of everyone in his parish. He was a real hands-on working minister.

We know there are many, like us, within the Cambuslang area and beyond who are sad to see him go.

We at Summerfest wish Neil, his wife Anna and family all the best in their new venture and their new parish will be all the richer for having them within their community. Liz Watson, Secretary, Cambuslang Summerfest, 11 Letterickhills Crescent, Cambuslang

A real treat would be trains running on time I had to chuckle when I read on the Reformer’s Twitter page that ScotRail has installed a coffee machine at Rutherglen station.

The headline read: “Commuters set to receive free treats”. I assumed this meant a train running on time with enough space to fit everyone on it.

Sadly, I was wrong. That would, of course, have been far too much to ask of ScotRail, which continues to disappoint on a regular basis. Anne McLaughlin Rutherglen

Coffee machine brings backmemories

The news that a Lavazza coffee machine has been installed at Rutherglen Station reminded me of the story told by my Italian teacher.

She married a Scotsman, despite him not speaking a word of Italian and her not speaking a word of English.

On her way up to Scotland for the first time by train, she was very puzzled and thought “what a strange country this is, every place is called Bovril.”

I had to confess to her that when I first travelled on the train between Venice and Milan, I thought everywhere was called “Lavazza” because of the huge advertising boards on the platforms at every station.
