Rutherglen Old Parish Church thanks everyone who helped to raise £383.20 at their recent coffee morning to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer UK. This will be passed on to the charity to help, in some small way, the work being carried out to help those who suffer from this illness. Fernhill and Cathkin Church is continuing to create new organisati­ons for the congregati­on, including the knitting and nattering club and the fortnightl­y crafts and coffee club led by Archie Paterson. Numbers attending on a Sunday continue to grow although there is still room for further progress. They are building new bridges all the time in efforts to improve congregati­on. The Fitness Follies keep fit class meet every Wednesday at 10.30am. On Thursday, October 26, the award-winning Renfrew Burgh Band will hold a concert in Toryglen Parish Church at 7.30pm in aid of church funds. Tickets will be available at the door. A bus has been organised to allow those in the Toryglen and Rutherglen area to attend the Reformatio­n 500 service in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrew’s, on Tuesday, October 31. The women’s guild meet on Wednesdays at 7pm and friendly hour for the elderly takes place on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. Rutherglen and Cambuslang Men’s Shed meet in Rutherglen Baptist Community Church every Tuesday and Thursday between 10am and 3pm. It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Entry is £1.50. Castlemilk Parish Church holds community meals on the first and third Fridays of the month. Soup, pizza and pavlova are available from 6-8pm along with Rutherglen West and Wardlawhil­l Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon. The Tuesday Club have resumed meeting every Tuesday in the Hamilton Road Hall. If you have a free afternoon and enjoy tea and chat, then all are welcome to come along. Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday from noon until 2pm for Thoughtful Thursdays, which provides quiet time away from the hustle and bustle. Tea and biscuits are available for £1. Cambuslang Parish Church’s Rutherglen United Reformed Church’s Go Ahead Club has started up again. The non-denominati­onal seniors club get together for tea and coffee every Wednesday at 2pm. Stonelaw Church’s Cafe@The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 2.30pm. The church holds 30-minute services in the meeting place on the first Wednesday of every Refresh is a new venture at Croftfoot Parish Church that runs every Friday from 2-4pm. It has a number of activities from a hand massage to playing pool, as well as spiritual guidance. The popular Messy Church event at Rutherglen Baptist Community Church is held on the third Saturday of each month (excluding July and August). The aim is to have fun exploring a bible theme through creativity, games and stories, and to enjoy building relationsh­ips by sharing a meal together.
