Chapman has no excuses

- Murray Spooner

Clyde manager Jim Chapman had no excuses for the defeat to Peterhead – but insists his side still have fight in them.

Darren Ramsay gave The Bully Wee the lead but the Blue Toon won it thanks to goals from Alan Smith, Jack Leitch, Russell McLean and Rory McAllister.

Chapman was frustrated with the goals his team lost and admitted:“Every time we had possession of the ball we looked vulnerable.

“It was interesting to see. There wasn’t a great deal of football played, Peterhead just launched it up long and picked up second balls better than us. No excuses, we got beat by the better team on the day second half and there are good lessons to be learned but there’s plenty fight left in us.

“Credit to them (Peterhead) because they smelt blood and finished us off. We had them at the start and didn’t finish them off. We’ve had a chat with the boys, it’s their time to step up and be counted.”

Chapman kept faith with the same starting XI which defeated Keith last weekend but David Gormley did return from injury to take a spot on the bench.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors from an early corner.

Blair Currie was beaten by McAllister’s header but the ball was cleared off the line.

On 11 minutes, David Goodwillie played through Smart Osadolor who hit a shot from a wide angle. Greg Fleming could only parry Osadolor’s effort, and Ramsay slid in to open the scoring.

Peterhead equalised just before the half hour mark when a cross from the left found Smith in the centre of the box and he slotted past Currie.

The Blue Toon scored twice in quick succession midway through the second half. McAllister got to the by-line and cut the ball back to Leitch, who fizzed a shot into the back of the net.

A minute later Callum Home’s clearing header fell to Russell McLean who struck a 35-yard effort into the top corner.

McAllister sealed the three points eight minutes later when a low cross was parried into his path by Currie, and the veteran striker made no mistake.
