Rutherglen Reformer

Tie will be no friendly

- Murray Spooner

Willie Harvey believes Monday night’s friendly match was great preparation ahead of the Glens’Scottish Junior Cup second round clash.

Rutherglen Glencairn may have lost 3-1 to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at Toryglen but the match handed game time to those struggling with injuries after Saturday’s league match was postponed.

Harvey’s side have now got a few more attacking options as they welcome North First Division outfit Glentanar to The Celsius Stadium this weekend (2.30pm kick off ).

Strikers Liam Gormley and Gary Smith are in contention for selection after playing the majority of the match against Rob Roy.

And Craig Palmer also did his chances of a start no harm after finding the net in Monday’s match.

Harvey said:“It was good to give some of the guys who may be coming back from injury some game time.

“We lost 3-1 but I wasn’t really interested in the result. We played well and Craig [Palmer] got 70 minutes under his belt. Liam Gormley got around 65 and Gary Smith got 70. “It was a good run out for us.” Commenting on the cup tie Harvey added: “With these games you can only really go by their league table and their results because you can’t get up to see them play.

“They’re having an indifferent season and conceded a lot of goals [13] and not scored too many [3].

“So by the quality of the two leagues we’re in, we should hopefully come out of this one unscathed.

“If you’re lucky you can maybe watch one or two videos of them but I am always a great believer in worrying about my own team.

“At the end of the day home advantage should make us slight favourites but that can be our Achilles heel. We won’t be going out there thinking it’s going to be too easy on Saturday.”
