The family of a Croftfoot man found dead after being reported missing say they are “devastated” at his death.

Paul Sweeney’s body was discovered in King’s Park at around 10.45pm on Wednesday, October 25.

Paul Sweeney’s body was discovered in King’s Park at around 10.45pm on Wednesday, October 25.

The 36 year old, who had been experienci­ng some personal problems, was last seen leaving a friend’s house in Ashcroft Drive in Croftfoot at around 5pm on Friday.

A frantic search by police and his family - who said it was highly unusual not to hear from Paullead to the grim discovery on Wednesday.

Paul’s sister Michelle Sweeney told the Reformer: “We as a family are devastated.

“Paul was very much loved and has an amazing network of friends and family.

“He was the best son, brother and uncle. He was a such a caring, loving guy. We, as a family, just feel he was let down by the system.”

There has been an outpouring of love for Paul on social media since his death was reported last week.

Dozens described the former Holyrood Secondary School pupil as a warm, friendly and lovely boy when they recalled their memories of him online.

His cousin Linsey Warnock Ballardin wrote on Facebook: “I’ve lost one of my best friends and cousin.

“Paul was loved by everyone and had so many friends and family who cared for him. Those who know us know how close all of our family are, even his closest friends are classed as family.

“He loved his family so much. He cared about each and every one of us.

“I was always so proud to call him my big cousin and will always cherish our childhood memories. Paul Sweeney, I hope you’re at peace now. I know you’ll be watching over us.”
