Council say no CCTV in the park
South Lanarkshire Council have confirmed there is no CCTV camera equipment in Quarryfield Park despite warning users of such.
A sign at the Cambuslang park’s entrance states :“This area is controlled by CCTV cameras, housing and technical resources.”
However, the local authority have confirmed to the Reformer there is no fixed cameras in place.
Frank McCafferty, head of property services with South Lanarkshire Council, said:“In response to reports of anti social behaviour Quarryfield Park has been a regular patrol area for the council’s community warden team, including mobile CCTV, since October 2016.”
Residents of Salvia Street, whose homes look on to Quarryfield Park, believe that CCTV footage may have helped catch the man who slashed another in the face when they came to his aid.
Andrew William Smith, 29, was walking through Quarryfield on the evening of Friday, October 20, on his way to his mum’s.
He heard a male shouting for help, but when he went to help him , the suspect cut his face.
And local residents were concerned by the overgrown bushes and poor lighting which they reckon hides the identities of those who may be committing crimes.
Council chiefs have since responded and have stated the lights from lampposts were inspected last week and there were no lighting faults reported.
We have also since been told bushes and shrubs are cut back as part of the annual winter maintenance programme which is currently underway.
Park users also slammed the council for the lack of bins which leads to dog walkers failing to pick up their pet’s mess.
We can confirm there are four litter bins within the park and, following an investigation by South Lanarkshire Council, officials believe they“appear to be sufficient.”
The park is visited on a daily basis from Monday to Friday and litter is picked up as required, according to one council source.
