Groups are after your votes to land cash

Community funds project

- Jonathan Geddes

Several groups in Rutherglen and Cambuslang are hoping to land a cash boost through a community funding project.

And they will need all the votes they can get from locals.

The Aviva Community Fund contest features a public vote, with the most popular projects then going forwards to a judge’s panel, who will decide on the winners.

More than 500 projects will be financed across four different fund levels and four categories.

In the running are the Treble Clefs Choir, Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club, Calderwood Primary’s outdoor classroom, the Burnside scouts eco wall proposal, Rutherglen Community Carers , the Nurture Education and Multicultural Society and the Camglen Buddies.

Each group has outlined what they intend to do with the money.

The Treble Clefs choir for youngsters aged nine to 18 in Rutherglen and Cambuslang would use the funds to hire a tutor and help with the costs of hiring a hall .

The Camglen Buddies have been running for two years for young adults with additional support needs.

The club’s membership has increased and they are looking at a new facility, which the funds would help with.

Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club have been having trouble with holes in their fences and have been losing lots of tennis balls because of the problem, so they are hoping the money could help fix that.

Calderwood Primary School’s outdoor classroom is already underway and plans are still to be completed to make it a great learning space for youngsters. These plans include a wildlife area with a bee and butterfly sensory garden, bird hides, weather station, performance area, tree houses and renewable energy, materials.

The 113th Burnside Scouts are hoping to create an eco wall that would replace a dilapidated wall near their play area.

Currently the group have erected a temporary fence to deal with that wall, which takes up part of the play area’s space, and the funds would replace that.

Rutherglen Community Carers are looking for funding to help continue with their early diagnosis and craft group.

Lastly the Nurture Education and Multicultural Society are seeking to establish maths classes in the area, helping adults with under developed maths skills.

Voting will close on November 21 and the finalists will be announced on November 28.

Visit www. avivacommunityfund. co.uk for more information. Each visitor has 10 votes to use, and they can use them on as many or few projects as they wish.
