Skipper Alec returns to inspire win

-

Cambuslang Rugby Club head coach Jamie Seery hailed the return of captain Alec Bean – who inspired his side to their second win of the league campaign.

The Cambus skipper spent the last six games on the sidelines after taking an elbow to the face during pre season.

And after Seery had to call off his side’s last league match with Annan due to a shortage of players, the Coats Park men responded brilliantly with a 27-11 win at home to Oban Lorne. Head coach Seery said: “I was delighted to get a very important five points, the guys played very well.

“It was close in the first 30 minutes until half-time.

“But then in the second half we sort of ran away with it.

“It was great to have Alec back. He is an important player for us.

“He’s a leader on and off the park and scrum half so that’s an important position to fill. “It was a physical game. “Oban were a big team so it was quite difficult and I’m pleased with the defence.”Seery said that he was not sure when the club will hear of the consequence of last week’s postponement.

But whatever happens, gaining a bonus point could prove to be crucial to their fight for a mid-table finish.

He continued: “Hopefully we don’t get deducted points but we’ll wait and see.

“If we do, the five points we got on Saturday could turn out to be even more important.”

Cambuslang play away to East Kilbride in their next match.
