- Jonathan Geddes

Everything is coming up roses for a local community group – but Cambuslang In Bloom is still seeking new members.

The initiative, which aims to help improve the appearance of Cambuslang through plants and flowers, recently completed their second year, and have planted the seeds for further success through various community events and work.

Speaking at a recent Cambuslang Community Council meeting, the group’s chairwoman Linda Wallace explained how they have been faring over the past year.

She also expressed the hope that more people might get involved.

She said: “We still have about 15 active people, and have had fundraising events in April. We are always looking for volunteers, so if there is anyone who wants to get out and meet people then this is a good opportunity to do that. We call it a walk with a purpose.”

Linda detailed some of the group’s work this year.

She added: “This year we have had a big plant out day, and the volunteer group still carry out two shifts a week, on a Wednesday at 3pm or a Saturday at 11am.

“This year we had the Cambuslang care home involved, led by one of our volunteers, and that is really excellent for people who are living in assisted care.

“We had a big clear-out in October, and we received a donation of bulbs from Cambuslang Rotary Club that will be put to good use. We will have more fundraising in March.”

Since forming Cambuslang In Bloom have attempted to improve the area through street planters, hanging baskets, barrier baskets and a new plant bed, as well as virtual shopfronts and welcome banners. Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Linda by email at cambuslangbloom@ aol.com or by calling 07972 558227.
