Mental health awareness talk
Author discusses own experiences
One of Scotland’s favourite authors paid a visit to Rutherglen Library as part of a festival to raise awareness of mental health.
Debi Gliori dropped by to discuss her own personal experiences.
Best known for her children’s books, Debi has also published a picture book dealing with depression.
Night Shift has been highly praised for using imaginative imagery to help convey an understanding of depression that cannot be captured by words alone.
During her visit Debi talked to adults and teens about her personal experience with depression and how she copes.
Debi said Night Shift is for: “Anyone who needs it, anyone who thinks they might be going into a depressive episode, anyone who is in the middle of one, anyone who is watching someone they love go through it and is desperately trying to understand what they are going through, anyone who has come out the other side, really anyone who is interested in understanding what this illness is.”
Gerry Campbell, general manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said: “This was a great opportunity to hear firsthand how Debi has achieved success as an author, while living through periods of illness.
“She is inspiring and an advocate of how exercise has played a big part in helping her cope with depression.”
Also showing on the day was “Pockets of Calm” a short information film from Healthy ’n’ Happy made especially for the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.
