St Columbkill­e’s Church is hosting its Carols by Candleligh­t concert on Tuesday, December 12, from 7pm.

The show will be performed by the Bothwell Philharmon­ic and the primary five, six and seven classes of St Columbkill­e’s Primary School.

It will be followed by festive refreshmen­ts in the parish hall.

There will also be a raffle and one of the prizes will be a family Christmas hamper.

The church is looking for any donations for this hamper such as wines and spirits; fruit loaves / Christmas cake; chocolates/ biscuits/snacks etc.

Donations can be accepted before or after any mass.

St Columbkill­e’s Church are also seeking more young people to help with their liturgy.

And the St Columbkill­e’s parish calender is now on sale in the Church porch, price £5.00.

All proceeds go towards reducing the church renovation debt. Stonelaw Parish Church will hold their Christmas Cracker 2 event on Saturday, December 9.

It is a chance to learn more about the real Christmas story with some festive fun, crafts and food.

There will be free activities for children from 0 - 11, under fives must be accompanie­d by an adult. St Oswald’s Parish Church will hold a nativity festival on Saturday, December 16.

They are encouragin­g people to bring their nativity sets for display.

It will last from 10am until 3pm and all are welcome to come in and enjoy.

Refreshmen­ts will be for sale and at 3pm the sets will be blessed, ready to be put in pride of place at home for Christmas. Burnside Blairbeth Church will hold a Quiet Christmas service on December 10 at 4pm.

This is a good opportunit­y to invite friends/family who would appreciate a more reflective Christmas service. Fernhill and Cathkin Parish Church are staging a Christmas tree festival in the church from Thursday, December 7 to Saturday, December 9.

The festival will be opened by councillor Robert Brown at 10am.

This is the second time that the church has staged a Christmas tree festival and it was a huge success last year.

There will be 20 trees on display in the church, church groups and some outside groups are joining for a truly spectacula­r event.

Fernhill and Cathkin Church is continuing to create new organisati­ons for the congregati­on, including the knitting and nattering club and the fortnightl­y crafts and coffee club led Archie Paterson.

The Fitness Follies keep fit class meets every Wednesday at 10.30am. St Bride’s Church is continuing their new Eat Up initiative each Wednesday.

The new idea will provide a hot meal each week, giving locals the chance to enjoy some warm food and some company each week.

It will run from noon until 2pm. Fleminton Hallside Church hosts a community cafe each Thursday from noon until 2pm.

The women’s guild meet on Wednesdays at 7pm and friendly hour for the elderly takes place on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. Cambuslang Parish Church’s cafe is open every Wednesday from 10am until noon. Croftfoot United Free Church host T in The Croft every Friday from 10am until noon.

It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Entry is £1.50. Rutherglen United Reformed Church’s Go Ahead Club has started up again.

The non-denominati­onal seniors club gets together for tea and coffee every Wednesday at 2pm. Refresh is a new venture at Croftfoot Parish Church that runs every Friday from 2-4pm.

It has a number of activities from a hand massage to playing pool, as well as spiritual guidance. The church will also hold several special services in the run up to Christmas.

There will be a family and gift service on December 10, a nine lessons and carols service on December 17 and then the Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 11.15pm. Castlemilk Parish Church hold community meals on the first and third Fridays of the month.

The church also has various other activities ongoing.

The Tuesday Club has resumed meeting every Tuesday in the Hamilton Road Hall. All are welcome.
