Cambus bag important victory Rugby

-

Cambuslang Rugby Club claimed their most important victory of the season, according to head coach Jamie Seery.

The Coats Park boss was relieved to watch Indio Harland successfully kick a penalty in the last play of the game to secure a 24-22 win at home to Stewartry.

Cambus move up to eighth in the BT West League Division 1 and the result has kept them in the hunt to catch their next opponents GreenockWanderers.

Seery said: “That’s got to be the most important win so far in the season for us.

“It came down to the last kick of the game. We got a penalty from just under the posts.

“I was delighted with the performance in the first half.

“At training during the week we worked on managing the game and we did that in the first half. But in the second it was as if they went out there and forgot it all.

“We were 21-8 up at half-time so I would have been really disappointed if we had thrown it all away at the end.

“But overall I was delighted to get the result.”

Cambus look set to host Greenock at Coats Park this weekend(2pm kick off ) without the influential Gregor Jones.

The flanker broke his thumb and is expected to be out until after Christmas. Seery added:“It is a bit of a blow for us because Gregor has been a good player this season.

“It was quite close the last time we played Greenock but they ended up running away with it in the end. Now home advantage will be in our favour.”
