Newton Vale manager Sean Donaghy was proud of the way his team battled to victory after losing two influential players to injury inside 15 minutes.

A 2-0 win over Strathclyde University continued the Cambuslang team’s good form at the top of Division 1.

Vale have played nine and still remain unbeaten which has pleased their gaffer.

Donaghy said: ”Attitude and determination won the three points as the team lost two highly influential players within the first 15 minutes.

“The resilience and effort shown today is a testament to the player’s belief and I couldn’t be prouder as a manager .”

Third Lanark boss David Ampleford also hailed his team despite dropping their first points of the season.

Alan Semple scored twice against East Kilbride YM who held Thirds to a 2-2 draw.

Ampleford said: “What a game it was at Toryglen. EKYM’s movement off the ball is brilliant and it was a tough tie.

“They had some really good players and played well together.

“These are the games you want to play in with two teams playing the game well.

“Sempy hit two more goals today and played very well.

“We think we could have done better with their two goals but it was definitely a fair result.

“We’re still unbeaten after 11 games with two more games before the Christmas break. But there is loads of hard work still to do.”
