BOTTLE ATTACK VICTIM SCARRED FOR LIFE

Police probe brutal pub assault

- Edel Kenealy

A man has been left permanently disfigured after being attacked with a bottle in a Rutherglen pub.

The 30 year old suffered a serious cut to his face when one of two men who approached him at The Wee Mill hit him with a bottle.

The pair ran off from the Baronald Street premises as drinkers helped the victim. He was taken to the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow where he received treatment.

Detective Constable Liz McIntosh, from Cambuslang CID, is investigating the assault.

She said: “We have still to establish exactly why this assault took place.

“But it would appear that a man in his 50s had been in the bar prior to the assault taking place, left for a short

time, returning with the other suspect who attacked the man.

“They both made off from the pub after the attack and the injured man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated and has since been released.

“The pub was busy that night and we have established that there were a number of people within The Wee Mill at the time of the attack and may have attempted to assist the injured man.

“I am appealing for any witnesses who were present at the time of the assault to contact police as it is vital that we trace the persons responsible for this violent attack.”

The first suspect – the one who struck the man with the bottle – is described as white, 30 to 35 years of age, 6ft, wearing a beanie hat, a padded gilet and lightcoloured trousers, possibly tracksuit trousers.

The second male is also white, aged in his early 50s, 5ft 4 to 5ft 5, of slim build, short receding hair. He was wearing a light top and jeans.

Anyone with information that will assist officers with their enquiries can contact Cambuslang CID via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
