Rutherglen Reformer

A very warm reception for crooner

- Murray Spooner

Irish signing superstar Daniel O’Donnell received a warm welcome from Ruglonians ahead of his sold-out show in Glasgow.

The 55-year-old record breaker was in town to meet the media and fans before his gig at the city’s SEC Armadillo.

Mr O’Donnell made history in 2016 by becoming the first recording artist in the history of the UK album chart to have at least one new album every year since 1988.

And on December 6, it took no time at all for fans in Rutherglen to show their appreciation for the Irish country music icon.

He said:“I’m sure I’ve been to Rutherglen before.

“I’ve been to most parts of Glasgow for one reason or another so I know a lot about the city.

“I’ve had a lovely welcome, the people always make the place don’t they and they’ve certainly been very friendly here. And yes I’ve enjoyed it.”

Superfan Rosie Carroll was just one keen individual to get her photo taken with Mr O’Donnell, who added: “They have been lovely, a lot of them are real fans and are going to be there on Friday night.

“Rosie has been a few times but started coming six years ago so she is a recent convert to the music, she’s going on Friday night too.

“We always have a great atmosphere at the shows here in Glasgow and I’m sure Friday will be no exception.”
