Golf club once more
Site’s put up for sale
Green fields on the outskirts of Cambuslang have been described as “ripe for development” as they are put up for sale.
Over 63 hectares of farmland next to Kirkhill Golf Club have been marketed as having “longer term development potential” in a move residents say will further threaten the greenbelt.
Bundled into four lots, two of the plots are situated west of the controversial Gilbertfield development, which will see 386 houses built on green space in the coming years.
Plots three and four are closest to Cambuslang town centre and are priced at offers over £60,000 and £30,000 respectively.
Crucially, the sale of these plots is linked to further development as a clause states 25 per cent of any uplift in the value of the land - likely if planning permission is granted - should be passed back to the seller. This, residents argue, means the sites are being pitched at housing developers.
Stephen Towill, of the Save Gilbertfield campaign group, said: “A change of land use here is something that we would object to.
“Like Gilbertfield, our major argument is that it is further erosion of the greenbelt.
“We found out Gilbertfield was designated for housing two years later, no one had known about it. These things can sneak past people so this is something that we will keep our eye on.”
Mr Towill said any future development in the area would pile even more pressure on public services already struggling to cope with demand, including roads, schools and doctors surgeries.
A further two larger plots of land, situated further along Turnlaw Road, make up the total 63 hectares for sale. They have guide prices of £195,000 and £150,000.
The sales brochure states the plots could be sold separately or together for £435,000.
