Celebrate those who want to help others

- Douglas Dickie

Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and happiness, and for most of us, it is.

Images of getting together with your family, eating your own body weight in turkey and playing party games immediately spring to mind.

But sadly, Christmas is not like that for everyone.

That is why we should celebrate those who look to make life that little bit easier for people who have fallen on hard times.

On pages eight and nine of this week’s Reformer we tell the remarkable story of Kirsty Steele from Cambuslang.

Kirsty co-founded the charity All2gethernow earlier this year, and since July they have been helping to feed homeless people in Glasgow’s city centre.

Every Monday, Kirsty and her team of volunteers can be seen on the city’s Cadogan Street dishing out hot food to those who need it.

The service she supplies will always be gratefully accepted by those who use it, but it is hard not to believe that gratitude is amplified at a time of year when the temperatures dip.

We at the Reformer wish Kirsty and her team the best of luck going forward.

On another note, you may have noticed in last week’s Reformer that we picked up another prize at the Media Scotland Regional Awards ceremony.

This time, we scooped the best circulation performance prize and it is safe to say we really could not have done that without the loyalty of our fabulous readers.

I extend my sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your support during 2017.

Finally, I want to wish all our readers a very merry Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
