Wonderful film tops Christmas movie pick

James Stewart classic is the onetowatch

- Murray Spooner

The festive season is upon us and the cold weather is keeping everyone cooped up in their warm homes.

But according to the residents of Rutherglen and Cambuslang, there is no better feeling than sitting with a hot cuppa and watching your favourite Christmas film.

From Will Ferrell’s comical journey from the North Pole in Elf, to the festive fantasy film, The Polar Express, or even Die Hard for those action movie fans, there is always something for the family to enjoy on the lead up to the big day.

However, there was one cracker many picked as their favourite of all time when we went out to speak to our readers this week.

“It’s got to be It’s a Wonderful Life,” said John Eadie from Fernhill. “It’s a Jimmy Stewart classic. I’ll probably be sitting in this Christmas but I watch it every year.”

Burnside’s Flora Kennedy agreed it was also her favourite, but added: “I don’t watch a lot of films but I do like Miracle on 34th Street.”

Trisha D’arcy from Rutherglen also enjoyed the 1946 American Christmas story and Chris Columbus’ Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

She said: “I like It’s a Wonderful Life because it’s so uplifting. It is all about the spirit of Christmas.

“And Home Alone 2 because it’s funny. I’ve been to New York, I’m just back from there actually, and we did get lost once or twice.”

Edward Meek of Burnside added: “It’s a Wonderful Life, it doesn’t matter how many times you watch it, it’s so good.”
