Gaffer pleased so far

Cambuslang Rangers manager Paul McColl admits he cannot complain at the start his team have made to their first season back in the Super First Division.

The Lang end 2017 having bagged the Central First title and are currently in fourth place in the table as they head into the two-week winter break.

Their scheduled match at Kello Rovers on Saturday fell victim to the weather but they remain well placed.

At this time last year, McColl’s men were six points ahead of St Roch’s at the top, having played two games more, but went on to lift the coveted trophy in May on the final day.

And with his side near enough back to full strength, McColl is eyeing his third promotion in a row.

“I would be happy if we were top,”he told the Reformer.“But to have only come up last season, to be in the top four half way through the season, you need to be happy with that.

“But this was always going to be a tough league. There are teams in fifth and sixth still in contention going into the winter break.

“You’ve got Renfrew there who we gave a bit of a pasting earlier in the season [4-0]. But fair play to them they are still up there in the top four and are getting the wins to keep them there.

“But I don’t tend to worry about what the other teams are doing. If we play the way we know we can then we’ll have no problems.

“We’re happy enough with how things are going especially when this is our first season coming up.”
