Donations flood in for food bank Parcels will really help during‘lean spell’in January

- Edel Kenealy

The generosity of dozens of schools, businesses and organisations will see Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank through what it describes as a “lean time for donations”.

The charity, which supports local families in financial crisis, has this month been inundated with bags of groceries.

And Ian Robertson, from the food bank, said the goods were especially welcome in January when demand for food rises and donations typically wain.

He said the organisation had received 1,500 items from Trinity High School alone.

“There was so much food that it was delivered by mini-bus,” Mr Robertson said.

“This donation, and those from others over the festive period, are in addition to the sterling work done by most churches and schools throughout the year in supporting the food bank. These donations will keep the food bank going over January, which can be a lean spell for donations.”

Other organisations that have bolstered January supplies for the food bank include: Cambuslang Jog Scotland, Murgitroyd and Company, George S Munn Funeral Directors, Rutherglen Town Hall, Rutherglen Library, Lawrie Ross Insurance Brokers, Shawlands Trinity Church, NLP Group, The Station Nursery, St Cuthbert’s Episcopalian Church, The Burnside Teapot, Ace Nursery and Out Of School Care, Motherwell College special needs class, Glasgow University, Hallside Flemington Church, Cambuslang Baptist Church Weight Watcher’s group, Cerns Energy, Cambuslang Rugby Club junior section and the Baptist Church’s Slimming World club.

Individuals including Sarah Limond, Denise Williamson, Ged Killen MP, Debbie Cunningham, Laura Griffen, Phyllis McGee, Kate Kelly and schools including Stonelaw High, St Mark’s Primary, St Bride’s Primary and Hallside Primary also donated much needed items.
