Road closed for five months

Deareditor Scottish Water would like to remind road users that Aikenhead Road in Glasgow will be closed from January 8, 2018 to allow improvement work on the city’s sewer network to continue.

A section of Aikenhead Road (A728), from its junction with Prospecthill Road (B768) to its junction with Curling Crescent, will be closed from Monday, January 8, 2018.

Road traffic management has been arranged in liaison with Glasgow City Council’s roads department and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

It is anticipated that the road closure and accompanying diversions will be in place for five months to allow this vital work to reduce flooding to be completed. Please allow extra time for journeys. In recent years, a total of four properties in this part of Aikenhead Road have experienced internal flooding, and there has also been flooding on the road and footpaths due to an issue with the capacity of the local waste water network in the Toryglen area.

Scottish Water’s contractors Costain Vinci Joint Venture (CVJV) will install a 55-metre stretch of new waste water pipe or sewer to increase capacity and reduce the risk of flooding to the affected properties and roadway.

The work forms part of Scottish Water’s £250 million investment in the upgrade of parts of the waste water network across the Greater Glasgow area to help tackle flooding and improve river water quality in the River Clyde and its tributaries.

Road users are reminded that there will be no access from Aikenhead Road to the park and ride car park just to the east of Hampden Park.

Access can be gained via Prospecthill Road, Prospecthill Drive and Hangingshaw Place.

Pedestrians are reminded that access along Aikenhead Road will not be affected and all local businesses will be open as usual.
