Readers outraged at bus passenger knock back

-

On December 27, we published a story about a Rutherglen pensioner who had her bus pass taken from her by a driver and told it was not valid, even though she had previously used it with no problem.

A number of readers got it touch with us to air their views on the incident. “First Bus should be so embarrassed with this service.

“Some drivers just get kicks out of this.

“It’s totally shocking.” Karen Turner “Bus drivers are a disgrace.

As soon as you pay or give them a pass, they put the foot down and speed off so your left hanging onto something before you sit down.

I’m sure they are not taught to try and make people fall over.

“But I have seen old ladies fall over at the speed of them.

I reckon everyone should ask wait till I’m seated.

“Then maybe they will learn to move off gradually.” Alex Duffin “This is terrible and it should never happen.

My son and two-year-old grandson were told that they couldn’t get on the 18 bus at Burnside because he had a local all day ticket which doesn’t cover Burnside even though Burnside is in South Lanarkshire.

He had to walk up to Whitlawburn with messages and my two-year-old grandson.

First Bus really need to start getting a grip, treating a pensioner and my son the way they have is bang out of order.” Michelle Cunningham “My daughter and her friends recently paid for return bus tickets and the driver gave them all singles.

They didn’t realise until they went to get the bus back home and that driver wasn’t interested, so he told them to either pay again or get off his bus.” Audrey Campbell “Had this a few times with my child being told to pay full fare or get off.

Once we were left to walk home in heavy rain at 10ish in the dark.

It got to the point that he had to take ID with him.” Brian Mckigen “She should have been given a week pass. “But this is the worst job in the world. “Twelve hour shifts, dealing with traffic, looney passengers, First trying to sack you for anything and no social life.” Bryan Cartledge “This is quite sad as most of the drivers are very considerate and helpful.

I hope that the lady or one of her family contact First Bus and get it sorted.” Barbara McGarrie “The company is a disgrace.

I witnessed the same thing happen to an old man on the 267 in Rutherglen two weeks ago.

We all paid a bit so he could get to Gorbals.

“It’s obvious that he owns a bus pass.” Kayley Peden “I realise the driver possibly wasn’t the nicest, but if you want to use a service you need to pay for it.

Not the driver’s fault if she’s bought the wrong pass.” Colin McKechnie
