Vale carry on their good run

-

Amateur round-up with Ian Kendall Greater Glasgow Premier AFL Newton Vale remain unbeaten this season after overcoming third placed Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’3-1.

One change from the previous week saw the injured Darren Hampson being replaced by Kieran Zeb and It would be the new addition who would open the scoring with a lovely free kick that found the bottom corner.

The Cambuslang men looked comfortable in the opening parts of the game with Eastwood giving them plenty of time and space on the ball. But It was not until Eastwood had a penalty claim that they began to work themselves into the match. With their striker running through on goal James McCaig made a last ditch tackle and when all eyes looked to the referee he waved play on. Eastwood were then able to create another great chance which grazed the top of the crossbar.

After ending the first half so poorly, Vale did not heed earlier warnings as Eastwood continued to pressurise and found an equaliser after 10 minutes which set up a brilliant end to the match.

Marc McFarlane showed brilliant composure in the middle of the park to control the ball and play a defencesplitting pass between centre and full-back. Defender Craig Fellows ran on to it but his shot was deflected into the path of Martin Jones, who chested and volleyed the ball into the net.

Kevin McFarlane then showed a piece of brilliance, first winning the ball in the middle of the park then coasting past the central defender before finally finding the top corner with his left foot.

Meanwhile Marc Corlett’s brace and goals from Robbie Sinclair, Josh Graham and Alan Semple secured a 5-0 win for Third Lanark over Colquhoun. In the Premier 1 Division, there was a huge win for the unbeaten Castlemilk Dynamo who defeated Cranhill Utd 4-2.

Neighbours Castlemilk United failed to get of to a good start to the new year as they went down 6-2 to Glasgow Rovers in the Premier 2 clash.

In Premier 3, Rutherglen Rovers suffered a 9-2 thrashing from Brunswick.
