More than 100 people have taken to social media to pay tribute to a Cambuslang woman who passed away suddenly last week.

Martha Hamilton, 70, was found unresponsive at Westburn Cemetery on Wednesday morning, January 17 and later pronounced dead.

The popular grandmother, known by many in Cambuslang, has been remembered for her kindness and sense of humour.

Her granddaughter, Chloe Hamilton, posted a video of her on Facebook, saying: “Forgot all about this video. This is one thing we’re going to miss, her craziness, never failed to make you laugh which is needed at times like this.”

One man wrote on the All About Cambuslang Facebook page: “Martha was a friend of our family and many others locally, and a lovely, kind-hearted woman.”

Those sentiments were echoed by another local, who wrote: “She was loved very much in our community, everyone loved her. She will be missed.”

A second woman said: “So, so sad, she was a lovely, kind person. RIP Martha, condolences to her family.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “At 11.05am on January 17 staff at Westburn Cemetery contacted police having found and discovered the body of a 70-year-old female.

“Police and ambulance services attended and the female was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“The identity of the female is known to us and her next of kin have been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been reported to the procurator fiscal.”

Martha’s death follows the sudden passing of John Cook, who died in a tragic motorcycle crash earlier this month.

A Cambuslang woman said: “The town has had more than its fair share of grief recently, with the passing of John Cook and now Martha Hamilton. It is very, very sad.

“It just brings home that we should all stand as a close community, look out for each other and help whenever we can.

“My sincere condolences to both families. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless.”
