House prices are on the up
The Rutherglen and Cambuslangs property market has been given a boost as it was revealed that the average house price in the area rose by six per cent in the past year.
The latest available figures, for November 2017, show that the value of the average house in the South Lanarkshire Council area has gone up from £116,818 to £123,804.
That is a rise of six per cent in the government statistics released by Registers of Scotland as part of their involvement in the new UK House Price Index, which is published every month.
Across Scotland as a whole, the average property was worth £145,992 – up 3.6 per cent from last year’s figure of £140,852.
The latest monthly report shows there were 595 sales in South Lanarkshire, up 3.8 per cent from 573 in the same month last year.
This was the fourth-highest figure among Scotland’s 32 local authorities and bucked the Scottish trend which saw a 2.5 per cent drop.
There were 9,323 sales across Scotland, down 2.5 per cent from 9,563.
Registers of Scotland business development and information director Kenny Crawford said:“Average prices in Scotland continued their upward trend in November with an increase of 3.6 per cent when compared to November 2016.
“Average prices have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016, when compared with the same month of the previous year.”
