Rutherglen Reformer

Still the Main talking point

-

There was lots of social media reaction to our front page story last week about the potential impact of a drive-thru in Cambuslang. Here is what you had to say: “I live in Croft Gardens and don’t drive. Getting to such new developments is difficult. I can’t be the only one in this position. A main street is and should be the heart of a community. Take that away you can forget about the latter.”

“Cambuslang Main Street was pretty much finished years ago. It saddens me to say that as I used to love the Main Street. I think what the council should have been doing over the years is to stop allowing every other premises to open as a takeaway and possibly offer lower rents, making the spaces more affordable to local businesses.

“Sadly, like most organisations these days, the council is driven by the pound sign.” Laura Sheppard

“The Main Street is finished, only bookies, takeaways, pubs, charity shops and vapour shops.

“There is only a few good local businesses on it now. It used to be all wee local business shops on it.” Letitia Hamilton “Morrisons killed Cambuslang Main Street.” Helen Drummond

●There was also reaction to our story about the flight path of Glasgow Airport potentially going right above Rutherglen:

“I know they have to go somewhere, but I am not happy about this.” Margaret Brown

“As if we need any more air pollution and noise above us.”

“The commercial airlines and others profiting from this must supply us all with effective air filters for the house and children and health vulnerable people with gas masks .... or free beach holidays, I’d settle for that. Make it so.” Alicia Donaldson
