The vacancy arose from the sudden death of Tommy in May last year.
Mr McLeary enjoyed a lengthy career as a chartered surveyor before his retirement.
He was a founder member of the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association and has supported or been involved in an extensive range of community events including Landemer Day and Summerfest.
In addition to having a seat on the board, Robert will also take up a position on the community committee alongside representatives from a number of key partner organisations including the Rutherglen-based Healthy’n’Happy Community Development Trust and the Burnhill Action Group.
He said: “I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to join the board.
“Clyde Gateway has already made a big difference to Rutherglen over the past 10 years but I know they have very ambitious plans to ensure the momentum is maintained.
“My key priority will be to help bring jobs and investment to the Burgh with as many opportunities as possible being given to local residents.
“I’m also keen to see how we can look to further develop the amazing asset at Cuningar Woodland Park and to ensure the continuity of the excellent relationships Clyde Gateway has with schools and community organisations.”
Jim Clark, the senior manager for communications and governance at Clyde Gateway, said: “It is great news that Robert has taken up the offer to join the Clyde Gateway board, and all that remains now is for the board to give formal approval to his appointment at its meeting next month.” A Burnside-based photographer has been named chairman of the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Business Network.
David Collie will officially step into the role on February 16 when the network has the first of its business breakfasts in 2018.
He will replace Colin Halliday who is stepping down due to increased business commitments.
Clare Ferry, the project manager for business and community growth at Clyde Gateway, which backs the network, said: “The network, which is open and free to the owners and managers of small and medium-sized companies and firms in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area, has grown in significance and importance in recent years.
“Our support enables everyone to come together at least four times a year over breakfast at the Burnside Hotel for valuable networking purposes and provides the perfect opportunity to talk and hear about innovative ideas and practices that could help local businesses to thrive and prosper.
“It is great news that David, who came on board just a couple of years back, is taking on the role of chair. I look forward to working closely with him throughout 2018 and beyond, and with his help I am confident the network will go from strength-to-strength.”
The business breakfast at the Burnside Hotel begins at 9.30am. All are welcome to attend.
