Best foot forward for walking group

- Jonathan Geddes

The walkers at Cambuslang Parish Church started the New Year with a walk in frosty conditions.

There was some snow on the ground as the group met up on a Saturday morning, and following a short journey they were set to walk round the green bridge trail at Chatelherault.

The group set off along the trail to the east of the river, fortunately the path is mostly through wooded areas and thus there was little snow on the ground.

On reaching the green bridge, the group enjoyed a short break before climbing up the steep path on the western side of the Avon Water.

On this path the area is more open as a lot of the forested areas have been felled. This of course meant the path had no protection from the snow and ice.

Although the path was treacherous in places fortunately no one fell, and all too soon the buildings at Chatelherault were in sight which indicated the walk was over.

However, while the walk was over the day was not.

Another quick journey took the group back to Cambuslang where everyone enjoyed lunch at Wetherspoons, a great way to wind down after a five mile hike in Arctic conditions.

For more information about the Walking Group, including full details of their programme of walks, visit the Cambuslang Parish Church website at www.cambuslangparishchurch.org.uk, look under Organisations and then select Walking Group.

Anyone wanting to get involved with the group would be welcome.
