Leg break blow for McCarthy

-

Castlemilk’s James McCarthy has suffered a sickening double broken leg.

The Everton midfielder was attempting to tackle West Brom’s Salomon Rondon as he went to shoot, leaving the 27 year old stricken on the floor.

McCarthy a former Castlemilk Boys Club and Hamilton star, went for scans and was told he had broken his tibia and fibula in the clash.

Afterwards, McCarthy’s manager Sam Allardyce said:“It’s a tibia and fibular fracture compounded. A very nasty injury.

“He’s paid a heavy price for his bravery and commitment. It’s a big blow for him and us.

“It’s a loss to us from now until the end of the season, it happens in the game of football but not often that severe.

“It was our own fault and our own stupid play in that area, James recovered brilliantly to stop a goal but suffered because of it.”

Rondon left the field in tears following the accident and later posted on Twitter:“Absolutely devastated. Rivalries are forgotten about when a colleague suffers such an unlucky injury. Really hope to see you back playing again soon.”

After shining in the Castlemilk BC team, McCarthy was signed by Hamilton Academical.

He made over 95 appearances for the Accies which caught the attention of Wigan Athletic and he subsequently moved out of his parents’home in the Glasgow district.

After claiming an FA Cup winner’s medal in 2013, he penned a deal with Everton worth £13m.
