Danny’s first Bully Wee win

Montrose ........... 1 Clyde .................. 3

-

Clyde recorded their first win in 15 league games and their first win under new manager Danny Lennon, with a deserved triumph at Montrose.

The home side went into the game as league leaders, but were outplayed as they blew their chance to tighten their grip at the top.

A delighted Lennon said: “That was a fantastic win. To come here and perform to that level was a credit to my whole staff.

“Our attitude was very positive and you need that sort of character to be successful.

“I am not surprised that it has taken us a while to get our first win. Every manager has a different style of coaching. We have now been working with the group for six weeks and getting over how we want them to play.

“We had desire and a fantastic energy and we carried out our game plan to the letter.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day and we face a lot more hard work.

“We face Peterhead next, another of the teams at the top and we must try to show the same level of consistency as the top teams have been showing.”

Montrose had the first chance in 14 minutes when Kerr Hay shot wide.

Clyde opened the scoring in 24 minutes. A simple ball forward beat the home defence and Ally Love stole in to score with a looping header.

Montrose tried to hit back and Gary Fraser had a shot saved by Blair Currie.

Just on half-time, David Goodwillie had a shot saved by Jordan Millar.

Clyde stretched their lead in 50 minutes. Tom Lang picked out Goodwillie on the edge of the box and the striker smashed the ball home.

In 61 minutes a header from Chris Templeman forced a great save from Currie.

Clyde went straight upfield and after a run from Goodwillie, Mark Lamont curled a shot inside the post.

In 66 minutes, Calum Home tripped Templeman and Fraser scored from the spot. Montrose were denied a second when a header from Templeman was cleared off the line by Barry Cuddihy.

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie said: “We didn’t do enough from start to finish and I have not complaints.”
