Opticians back in focus after revamp
MSP officially opens refurbished premises
A Rutherglen opticians is hoping to welcome more people with mobility problems and parents with prams after a revamp of the premises has made it more user-friendly.
Tod’s opticians has undergone an expansion and refurbishment in a bid to make it more accessible.
The new layout at Rutherglen Exchange has seen a dedicated waiting area created, separate from the glasses display and fitting area, and space for patients to move more freely.
Sohaib Shafiq, who owns the opticians, said: “We embarked on a facelift because, while the original practice was loved by many, it had become tight and dated.
“A lot of wheelchair users as well as parents with prams felt it difficult to attend appointments due to the space constraints.
“Our hope is patients who felt uncomfortable at visiting the practice will be attracted back to a modern, independent practice.
“We also look forward to inviting new patients who are looking for stylish glasses to visit and look at our collection.
“We stock Nina Ricci, Swarovski and Calvin Klein as well as many other brands.”
Clare Haughey MSP joined staff at Tod’s to formally open the refurbished outlet this month.
“I was delighted to open Tod’s the opticians new premises in Rutherglen Exchange,” she said.
“I was particularly impressed by the newly expanded shop and the warm welcome and friendliness of all the staff. It is encouraging to see a well-known local business thriving and I wish them all the best for the future.”
Optometrists Mr Shafiq and Mary Frances Coyle complete eye tests and both have been qualified for over 10 years, with extensive experience in dry eyes, blepharitis, diabetes, cataracts and many other eye conditions.
They are supported by a further three front of house members of staff.
