New road still a big issue

-

Our recent story about cars shunning the Cathkin Relief Road prompted much debate on social media. Here is what you had to say: “Sometimes the new road is queued away back at junction. People will go elsewhere rather than sit in traffic.”- Pauline Campbell

“There is no filter for turning right onto Burnside Road on Mill Street, that is the problem, easily solved.” Mark Brennan

“There needs to be a filter light going from Croftfoot Road turning right towards Fernhill Road. At peak times it’s queued back with no chance of turning.”- Karen Herrity McBride

“Burnside Community Council obviously hoped it would alleviate traffic in central Burnside but given that most of the traffic congestion in Burnside is due to the school runs, this £21m new road hasn’t helped at all. There was never any need for this road and that is why it sits empty for long periods. Pushing this through was an ego trip for some at South Lanarkshire Council and I know lots of people who don’t use this road as a matter of principle, myself included.” - Andrea Cowan

“I’d rather they focussed their attention on stopping lazy parents from parking on double yellows and on pavements at the schools. Was nearly hit by two cars tonight walking the dog, and I was on the pavement.” Andrea Oakes

“Great road, I use it everyday. Happy the way it is, the less cars the better.”- Gary Morton

“New road generates new traffic, who didn’t see that coming, its called induced demand.”- Gary Ingram

“Is Burnside still getting traffic driving through their Main Street? What a shame. That will be the local traffic we told them about.”- Alice Forrester

“It’s a white elephant.”- Rab Mca
