Injury denies brothers chance to team up

-

Former Cambuslang RFC lock Jonny Gray is gutted his brother Richie will miss Saturday’s Six Nations opener in Cardiff.

The Scottish internationals were originally named in the squad for the match against Wales on February 3.

But Richie, who grew up in King’s Park with Jonny, will remain in Toulouse with his club side to have a calf problem treated.

Jonny admitted he was saddened not to catch up with his big brother.

“Absolutely gutted for him. I miss him,”said the 23-year-old Glasgow Warrior skipper.

“It would be great to have him here and it’s been a while since we’ve seen him and we hope he’ll be back soon. I don’t think it’s something too serious.

“I didn’t see him at Christmas. We speak to each other once a week. I just texted him there. Maybe shouldn’t have mentioned that. I miss Rich, he’s a great guy and, as a rugby player, it’s great to have him about, training and working with him and getting his ideas. He’s not too far away on the phone.

“He’s always available to speak about different things. He’s got a lot of information as well, and he gets it from us as well for when he comes back in.”

Jonny will be looking to add to his 38 caps when the Scots get their campaign underway this weekend.

He rejected a big money offer from English outfit Bristol, penning a deal to keep him at Scotstoun until May 2020.
