High five for Paul’s star men

- Jim Logan at Somervell Park

Cambuslang ...... 5 Shettleston ........ 0

Cambuslang Rangers had their shooting boots on as they thumped Shettleston Juniors 5-0.

Hat-trick hero John Gemmell was brought into the starting line -up at the expense of Jordan Love. And it was the striker who gave Cambuslang the lead after a cagey start by both sides.

Gemmell latched on to a Callum McRobbie through ball and slotted past the keeper after 25 minutes.

That lead was doubled on 36 minutes when Chris Duff saw his effort parried by the keeper, only for Dale Simeon to follow up and knock the ball in.

The game was all but over two minutes after the restart.

Simeon was hauled down in the box and the penalty kick awarded.

There were no complaints from the Town defender as he was shown the yellow card and Gemmell stepped up to fire in his second of the game.

Town were reduced to 10 men when their player was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language towards the referee.

Simeon had a great chance to increase the lead but his chip drifted inches over the bar.

Defender Kris Gebbie was replaced by forward Craig Hastings just after the hour mark and Jamie Hay replaced David Green in the middle of the park.

The best goal of the day came on 75 minutes.

Gemmell picked up the long ball with his back to goal, took a touch, turned and chipped it over the Town keeper and into the net from 25 yards.

The rout was complete three minutes later when McRobbie got in on the scoring act.

He burst through the Town defence and made no mistake as he slotted past the advancing keeper to round off a great afternoon for the Somervell side.

With the game over as a contest, Shettleston boss Hugh Kelly was sent off for verbally abusing the referee.
