SNP and Labour groups shuffle the packs

- Douglas Dickie

Rutherglen and Cambuslang councillors that are part of the SNP group have been handed new roles on committees.

The group has shuffled its pack with a number of councillors moving.

Carol Nugent will take over the key role of chair of the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area committee, with John Bradley becoming depute chair.

However, Councillor Bradley will replace Stephanie Callaghan as chair of the social work committee. He will also take her place on the executive committee.

He has also been handed roles on the Getting It Right for South Lanarkshire’s Children’s Partnership board, the South Lanarkshire Integration Joint Board as well as its sub committee, and the COSLA’s health and social care board.

Katy Loudon will become a member of the social work committee but will no longer serve on the planning committee.

Janine Calikes will become a member of the South Lanarkshire area support team.

The Labour group has also made a number of changes to accommodate Martin Lennon, who won the Rutherglen Central and North by-election in November.

Councillor Lennon has been handed places on the community and enterprise resources committee, the planning committee, the licensing committee and the housing a technical resources committee.

He will also have an active role on the equal opportunities forum and joint consultative forum as well as the risk and audit scrutiny forum.

Councillor Lennon has also been appointed to the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area committee while Margaret Cowie becomes a member of the child protection committee.

Councillors on an executive committee were informed of the changes at a meeting last Wednesday.
