Student Gary hopes gig will hit the right note

Organising show for college course

- Jonathan Geddes

A Halfway student is hoping a project for his course will hit the right notes - as he has organised a gig.

Gary McManus is studying radio production at the City of Glasgow College, and as part of the course he and his fellow students have been tasked with arranging a show.

The former Cathkin High pupil, who is hoping for a career working in radio, has booked Glasgow’s Nice N’ Sleazys venue on Wednesday, March 7.

Bands booked to perform are alternative rockers Bubbatrees, Glasgow solo artist Snack Villain and Glasgow-based funk and soul band Mother Focus.

The experience is helping to prepare Gary for the future.

He said: “I’ve learned a lot of communication skills doing this, just from talking to bands, the venue and for trying to get press. It’s been all about trying to be professional in putting this together and it should be a good night.

“Seven of us in our group are organising it - a couple of the group have known bands or people who know bands and we’ve been asking them and arranging it that way.

“The hardest part has been getting the bands to play. That’s been tough to sort but it should be a really good show.”

Tickets for the Bubbatrees show at Nice N Sleazy can be purchased online for £5 at https://fixr-app.com/ event/12962.

Otherwise they will be £7 at the door on the night.

Entry is strictly 18-plus and the gig will start at 7.30pm.
