Terry – one in a million

-

Tributes have been flooding in for former Rutherglen Glencairn physiotherapist Terry Waters who passed away on Thursday aged 64.

Terry was a popular and well-known figure in the west region Junior scene.

The ex-Cumbernauld United goalkeeper, who played with the club during the 1970s, joined The Glens in 1995 and was initially club physio under manager Alistair McColl.

Terry then went on to serve the club for 15 years under managers John Conlin and Ross Anderson and co-managers Scott Smith and Willie Paterson.

In 2010 he left along with the management team for Petershill.

Peter Ferguson, Glens correspondent for the Rutherglen Reformer, shared many a laugh with Terry. He said:“He always had a smile on his face and a keen sense of humour and mischief.

“You had to be careful when speaking to him that he wasn’t trying to wind you up. Most conversations with Terry ended in laughter .

“The one thing I always noticed about Terry was that he had a concern for people personally, he didn’t just want to talk about football.

“He would always ask about my family and health and he genuinely cared about people. He was a generous man in that respect and wanted to help people where he could.

“The number of messages that have been pouring in on social media to both Petershill and Glencairn from players and supporters of clubs throughout the west region show just how highly Terry was regarded.

“He will be sadly missed by everybody in the west region. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends.”

Terry’s remains will be received into Our Lady and St Helen’s Church, Condorrat, at 7pm tomorrow, February 8. The requiem mass will be on Friday at 10am, then on to Kilsyth Cemetery.
