Three leave Somervell

- Murray Spooner

A top-heavy Cambuslang Rangers squad was cut once again as three more players exited Somervell Park.

Graeme Ramage rejoined Super First promotion hopefuls Kello Rovers while midfielder Hal Bohme ended his 18-month stay at the club to join Super League outfit Arthurlie.

Josh Graham, who joined from Arthurlie last month, has been loaned out to Benburb for the remainder of the season.

Assistant Cambuslang coach John McKeown revealed the management staff are now happy with the players who remain on the club’s books in their pursuit of the league title.

He said:“Myself, Paul McColl, Billy Campbell and Jimmy Kerr thought the squad was a bit top-heavy with too many bodies.

“We’re happy with the boys we have here and hopefully they can see us through to the end. We are quite content with what we have.”

McKeown, Campbell and Kerr took charge of proceedings on Saturday as Cambuslang defeated Super Premier leaders Kilwinning Rangers in a friendly.

A Dale Simeon penalty and Kris Gebbie’s effort had Lang 2-0 up before the Ayrshire men grabbed a late consolation.

McKeown, who joined the club from his head coach role at Cumnock earlier this season, reckons the match will set them up nicely as they get back to league business on Saturday.

“It’s Maryhill away, weather permitting,”he said.

“It’s a hard period in Junior football with it all being stop start.

“The friendly was a chance to keep the legs ticking over and Kilwinning had some Scottish junior internationals in their team so it wasn’t as if it was against a weakened team.

“It’s sets us up well for Saturday. I know Maryhill manager John Hughes and he has added a few more signings and always has his teams prepared.”

One of Hughes’new signings included keeper Kevin Patrick Mcallister from Rutherglen Glencairn.
