Duff: Boss sold me on move

-

Cambuslang Rangers Cambuslang Rangers forward Chris Duff has told how boss Paul McColl and team-mate David Green sold him on a move to the club.

The 26-year-old put pen to paper with The Lang after falling out of favour in manager Gus MacPheron’s plans at Queen’s Park.

A host of clubs were on Chris’s tail to get his signature, including his old team Kirkintilloch Rob Roy where he spent four years.

But conversations with McColl and Green, who also moved from The Spiders earlier this season, convinced him it was the right move to make.

“I have enjoyed my last few weeks,”he said.“You know how it is when you go to a new club, it takes time to get to know the boys and get used to the way they train.

“I was still in contact with David Green from our time at Queen’s Park and he kept on at me and saw on the team lines that I wasn’t starting much at Queen’s.

“At 26 you want to be playing regularly and I wasn’t getting that. I was patient up until Christmas and thought enough was enough.

“But I don’t regret the move one bit, I loved the six months I was there. There were a few clubs who knew but I don’t think many people knew I was getting released from Queen’s Park.

“But when I spoke to Paul it felt like he really wanted me and that is a big thing for a player.

“The club look as if they are going in the right direction and I wanted something fresh, another challenge.”

Duff and Green are the latest senior players to dip into Junior football with Cambuslang.

One-time Celtic and Charlton Athletic defender Mark Staunton, ex-Clyde powerhouses Chris Smith and John Gemmell, former Albion Rovers striker Callum McRobbie and ex-Brechin City and St Mirren stalwart Craig Molloy have all joined McColl’s league title hunt. And with a wealth of talent in the ranks, Duff believes he can only add to the quality at Somervell Park .

He added: “You can tell at training they play to a very high standard. I’ve only played a couple games but I can tell I need to up my match sharpness.”
