Tenants upbeat over lift repair
Cambuslang residents trapped for weeks by a broken lift can at last get out and about again.
Arklet Housing Association reported yesterday that the faulty lift at Maple Tree Court flats has been repaired.
Catrina Miller, interim director of the Giffnockbased association, said: “The lift was repaired and tested throughout the day last Thursday. It has been working ever since”.
Tenants in the flats faced an ongoing ordeal during which they were left without a working lift three times in a five week period. Ill and elderly residents were struggling to get up and down stairs to hospital appointments.
Helen, partner of tenant Hugh McCabe who raised the alarm in last week’s Reformer, said residents were “relieved” to get out ahead of this week’s snow.
She said: “The lift was repaired on Thursday. It wasn’t working again on Friday but it has been fine since then. Everyone is so relieved.”
“I have seen my neighbours down at Morrisons getting the shopping in, people who have not been able to get out in weeks.
Helen added: “There has also been other improvements too. New carbon monoxide detectors and emergency lighting.
“We are all amazed at how Arklet have responded to the Reformer article.”
An Arklet spokeswoman said previously that the association was at the mercy of a Spanish manufacturer for lift parts, adding that Arklet felt for the tenants “frustration” and had called in an independent
