Slack defending costs Queen’s

-

A mix-up over playing kit saw kick-off at Hampden delayed – and it was Queen’s Park manager Gus MacPherson who was left feeling blue.

The Spiders came from a goal behind to lead but the 10-man Loons claimed a point with MacPherson left to rue some dodgy defending and a refereeing call.

MacPherson said: “It would be kind to say that it was bad defending at their first goal. We battled back really well but our game management after we got ahead was not good enough.

“There was a really big call right at the end when there looked to be a hand-ball in their box but nothing was given.”

After a delay of around five minutes, caused by an apparent mix up with kit colours, Queen’s got the game going.

Forfar took the lead after four minutes when goalkeeper Marc McCallum’s kick-out sent Dale Hilson free and he lobbed over Michael White.

With 10 minutes on the clock, The Spiders went agonisingly close to a quick equaliser. Ross Millen and David Galt were involved in the build-up with a decent passing move which allowed Galt to deliver an inviting cross into the back post. Gregor Fotheringham had timed his arrival perfectly but directed his header inches over the bar.

Queen’s pulled themselves level courtesy of top scorer Adam Cummins. Once again Galt was involved. It was his delivery that fell perfectly for the big centre-back who was never going to miss from six yards as he directed his header beyond McCallum.

There was little in the way of action early in the second half but after 52 minutes Queen’s attacking play was rewarded. Anton Brady delivered a great ball into the box which was knocked down by Daniel Nimmo and Keena was on hand to fire The Spiders ahead with his fourth goal in five.

Eddie Malone was dismissed when he picked up his second booking 17 minutes from time and Forfar levelled on 75 minutes with a terrific curling Dylan Easton free-kick.

A cross to the back post late on saw Sean Burns ’shot volleyed against the arm of a Forfar player but the referee played on.
