Old Firm thugs hunted after spree of assaults
Police Scotland are hunting gangs of thugs who committed serious assaults in Rutherglen and Cambuslang in the aftermath of last weekend’s Old Firm clash.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 32-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Rutherglen around 9.45pm on March 11.
The man was walking on a footpath at Ross Place when he was approached by a group of thugs who targeted him in an unprovoked attack.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He has since been released from hospital.
His attackers were all described as wearing dark clothing.
The violent episode took place just two hours after a 40 year-old man was assaulted in Cambuslang.
The victim was walking on Tiree Way when he was approached by a group of men who attacked him.
The injured man was also taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released.
Detective Sergeant Ronnie Douglas is appealing for any witnesses to these incidents, or anyone with information that may assist his inquiries to contact Cambuslang police office through 101 quoting reference number 4511.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
These assault reports follows the arrest of a 24-yearold male in conjunction with an assault on a 48-year-old man on Rutherglen Main Street at 8.55pm on Sunday, as reported in the Reformer last week.
A police spokesman said that the assaults are thought to be related to violence following that afternoon’s Premiership clash at Ibrox.
