Mur­der at Castlemilk flat row

A man has ap­peared in court charged with mur­der­ing an­other male with a ham­mer and knife.

Muhammed Rauf, 41, al­legedly killed Haider Hayat, 40, at a house at Raith­burn Road, Castlemilk last Tues­day, April 3.

It is claimed he re­peat­edly struck Mr Hayat on the head and body with a ham­mer and on the neck and body with a knife.

Rauf, from Easter­house, ap­peared in pri­vate at Glas­gow Sher­iff Court. He made no plea and was re­manded in cus­tody.

Haider Hayat’s body was found in­side a flat af­ter po­lice were called to a dis­tur­bance in the early hours.

Of­fi­cers sub­se­quently taped-off three closes and a large grassed area.

Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, two women and eight chil­dren were taken to the Queen El­iz­a­beth Univer­sity Hospi­tal by am­bu­lance. All 10 have since been re­leased.

A Po­lice Scot­land spokesman said: “Po­lice were called to a re­port of a dis­tur­bance at a flat in Raith­burn Road.

“Emer­gency ser­vices at­tended and a num­ber of peo­ple were taken to Queen El­iz­a­beth Univer­sity Hospi­tal.”

No ages have been re­leased for the chil­dren but it is un­der­stood at least one is a baby.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing to any­one who was in the area, who may have seen or heard the dis­tur­bance take place, or in­deed, has any in­for­ma­tion they think may as­sist of­fi­cers with their en­quires, to con­tact the CID at Cath­cart po­lice sta­tion via 101.
